The Barns

On an overcast Saturday in June, I set out with a professional group from across the DMV metro to partake in an annual wine tour of Virginia vineyards. This would be my first tour and wondered if this would be one of many. Suffice it to say, I will do it again.

The day began with a gathering of wine-tasters to await loading of the two buses that would be our transportation. The organizers thought ahead and provided coffee, donuts, and bagels. Let me not forget there were also snacks for later.

The Barns at Hamilton Station, located in Hamilton, Virginia, is a winery and vineyard sitting on 100 acres of what was once a dairy farm.

More than 50 persons participated in the wine tour. Seated in what is called the cellar, the group is greeted with six selections of wine, three whites and three reds. The selection of whites include 2023 Bank Barn White, 2021 Cascina, and 2020 Petit Manning The Reds include 2021 HSV Harmony, 2020 Bank Barn Red and 2020 Malbec.

Beyond the wine tastings, if you are so inclined, a walk around the property will not disappoint. My absolute favorite is the view from the outside deck of the tasting room. From the deck you look out onto the property where three life-sized cows are nestled along the edge of a small pond.
